Colorado Health Insurance Expert Says There May be Better ...

An individual health insurance policy may be a better alternative than electing COBRA coverage, according to Colorado health insurance expert Michael Horvat, founder of Healthquotes.com. Under COBRA, the former employee is responsible for up to 102% of the premium, whereas they likely paid only a fraction of the premium as an active employee. Care should be taken to choose the best individual policy given the former employee's unique situation.

Colorado Springs, CO (PRWEB) April 26, 2007 -- Employees in Colorado who lose their jobs may want to consider an individual health insurance policy as an alternative to continuing their former employer's group policy through COBRA. "While the decision to participate in COBRA depends on multiple factors -- such as pre-existing conditions and the length of time someone will be out of work -- the cost of COBRA coverage is often surprising," according to Healthquotes.com founder Michael Horvat, who has over 28 years of experience as a Colorado health insurance broker.

Health insurance soon to be required for all UNH students

Many of the nation's leading grant universities demand health insurance as a requirement for all incoming full-time students. As of the 2007-2008 academic year, UNH will be one of them.

For this requisite to come into effect, the requirement will abide by a yearlong process of reviewing the individual students' health care needs, considering the programs objectives with students, parents and staff members.

Through Health Plans, Inc., health insurance will be available under UNH's new Student Health Benefits Plan. For student coverage, the average cost of this program will be about $115 a month. This includes a $1 million maximum lifetime benefit, no current health care exclusions or limitations, prescription drug and mental health care coverage and reduced co-payments for access to physician and hospital services.

Health Care and Workplace Possible changes loom for health ...

There have been a few rumblings and changes among health insurance companies lately. Some speak to the health of individual businesses, some to the industry and some to the ordinary people covered by their policies.

Take the legislative session. Members of the Clark County Association of Health Underwriters are most worried about mandates - laws which force a company to cover certain types of medical expenses.

One bill under consideration would require coverage for annual prostate screenings (Senate Bill 113); another would require that cervical cancer vaccine be covered (SB409). Though mandates help certain people, the insurance industry says requirements raise premiums.

"If there's going to be a mandate we'd like to have an analysis of the financial impact it's going to have on premiums," said Larry Harrison, a board member and owner of brokerage Harrison Insurance.
