One of the hottest public health debates today is over whether or not adolescent girls should be required take the vaccination against the human papillomavirus, which can cause cervical cancer. The debate is being closely watched by black medical professionals, organizations and parents, since African-American women are at least 50 percent more likely to die from cervical cancer than white women. In Texas, Gov. Rick Perry issued an executive order in February requiring sixth grade girls be inoculated before entering school. But last week, amid controversy, the state lawmakers rejected the order. In Washington, D.C. the city council had voted to support a vaccination bill requiring the series of shots be administered beginning in 2008. Last week, despite protests, the council approved immunization, but pushed the the program back to 2009.

Queen Show contestants to make appearance at PAM convention
Basseterre, St.Kitts (April 16th 2007) :- With just under 2 weeks left before the anxiously and keenly anticipated Miss Personality and Marvelous P.A.M Queen and Ring Bang Calypso Show the organizers announced today a schedule of pre-show public appearances that the young ladies will be making leading up to the Saturday April 28th Show.
Included in the scheduled activities for the 8 beautiful young ladies are night-outs at various restaurants and entertainment spots including Sprat Net this Saturday 21st and Bobsy's Bar and Grill during the course of next week.
In addition they will be a part of the National Womens Group meeting on Health and Safety to be held in Cayon at the Cayon Community Center on the evening of Monday 16th at 7pm.
The talented beauties will also make an appearance at the 42nd annual convention of the Peoples Action Movement to be held on Sunday 22nd at 2pm at the P.A.M Headquarters.
The girls have also been taking part in a series of educational and personal development workshops and training sessions and have had experienced and qualified facilitators including Public Relations specialist Selwyn Liburd as well as human resource development lecturer Cyndie Demming lecture and educate them.
Both gave presentations on various topics such as public relations, public speaking and the remaining sessions will explore many other self enhancement and development topics .
