Can you help find a cat a home?

They might be the most popular pet in Britain, but the latest RSPCA figures reveal cats are abandoned and mistreated more frequently than any other animal. The charity has seen a huge leap in the number of cats rescued because their owners did not want them. In the last year the number of abandoned cats increased by almost a half - with a rise 44 per cent. The RSPCA in the east of England dealt with 2,181 unwanted animals in 2006, of which 612 were cats - the largest for any one animal. While the number of animals receiving some sort of help in the east - ranging from those who were abandoned and unwanted to those that were sick or injured - was up to 26,936.Tim Wass, the RSPCA's east regional superintendent, said today: “We rescue a staggering number of animals from a wide range of difficult, distressing and often surprising situations each year.
